NB plc Takes Beyond The School To Eric Moore Senior High School

Nigerian Breweries Plc has taken its career guidance programme tagged ‘Beyond the School” to Eric Moore Senior High School. The programme put together for students in the senior secondary school categories in public schools is designed to expose students to career options and factors they need to consider before making a career choice. The initiative is also to help students to improve their reading habit and underpin the importance of reading in career goal achievement.

The Project Champion, Mrs. Clementine Vervelde who addressed the students advised them to discover their abilities, talents and areas of interest, and be ready to take advantage of their chosen career opportunities in future. She noted that the students must believe in themselves and stand up boldly to challenges they might encounter in their career pathway.

Mrs. Vervelde also admonished parents represented by Chairman, School-Based Management Committee, Alhaji Onigbanjo, to allow their children make career choices themselves with their vital input and advice.

Speaking earlier, the principal of the School, Mrs. Catherine Ogunride thanked the company for bringing the initiative to the School and urged the students to put to use the advice given to them. She asked for increased support to further improve the education provided for the students. Also present at the event were the Vice Principal, Mrs. A.M Adeniyan, who represented the Tutor General and Permanent Secretary Education District IV, Mrs. Ekundayo, School Administration Officer, Education District IV and Miss Roselyn Akpere, School Counsellor, among other staff and students of the school and representatives of Nigerian Breweries Plc.

As part of the Initiative, the company also donated books to the school. The Corporate Affairs Adviser of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr. Kufre Ekanem noted that the initiative has been introduced to complement other initiatives of the company targeted at the education sector. He counseled students to work hard at their academics inspite of the economic challenges confronting them and the nation at large. He called on students to take advantage of the career guidance information provided to them, which was in line with best practices, to achieve their fullest potential.

The Nigerian Breweries Beyond the School programme is a career guidance initiative designed to enlighten and expose secondary school students to career options and how best they can focus their learning to make it more relevant to desired future careers. It also seeks to develop a healthy reading culture among the students.
